Knit-along blanket in progress - Κουβέρτα Πλεκτή

As the title states, this post will be about the progress I have made so far on one of my unfinished projects, my blanket from a knit-along that I got from my friend Julie, who owns the "Pleko" yarn shop in Chania. And as promised, this post will be in Greek too, for anyone who wishes to read my blog. Apparently, when I announced my last blog post on FB, it received a very warm welcome from all of my friends, for which I will be forever grateful!!

So the story with this project is the following: I received the weekly designs, chose my yarns and colors, and started knitting. Week 1 was the following design:

A small notice to readers, I consider myself a beginner/intermediate knitter, I do my best and I am willing to learn new patterns and techniques. Week 2 was the following design, which I ripped and restarted 3 times, until I figured out what I was supposed to do:

Week 3 was the star:

Week 4 was the heart, of which I made the first one, and then decided that the heart was slightly pointy at the sides and decided to change it and make it curvier in the next blocks:

Week 5 was the lace kisses, which was pretty straightforward since I had managed to do the week 2 design:

Week 6 was the French plait, which I think I knitted last, because I got so scared of it (little did I know, or remember that I would have to knit a plait border at the end!!!)

Week 7 was the bricks, which was quick and fun to make:

Finally, week 8 was the English rib. Ok. I admit I only made one (youtube helped a lot!!!) and then I decided to go back to the week 6 French plait, which seemed easier than this. And I made a mistake, which I saw at the end, and of course I never intend to correct. I will make the remaining 3 blocks of this, after I assemble the rest of the blocks and connect them. Did I mention how difficult I think this is? I don’t know which is more difficult, to connect them altogether or to make the English rib? Oh boy…

So, here it is. I have managed to connect some of the blocks together. I connect them by row and then, each row with the next one. So far four rows have been connected, not very happy with the connection, I am very impatient at this point and to tell the truth, I find it so boring… oh, don’t forget the braid for the border; I started making the braid, before I began connecting the blocks together. And block 8 is still missing 3 pieces.

There will be a follow up on this post, to show the final connected blanket. I already love it. I loved it since I bought the yarn. It is so soft and nice to knit with. It’s Big Merino by Drops = LOVE!!!
Until next time, be safe and happy!!!
Thank you for reading this long post!!!

Year long to-do list!!!

So, one of the things that I do, I write notes, fold them, put them somewhere that I think I will find them again, and then I completely lose them. One of the last ones, was a list of all the items that I will post on this blog in 2016.
And then, I read a post on my friend Ada's blog "Ada's Country Life", who in her last post about "Big plans", mentions that she would like to take part in a FAL (Finish Along) group. I clicked and clicked and ended up in Nicky's blog "Mrs Sew and sow" who is one of the hostesses of the 2016 Finish-Along group, and read about it in more details. As Nicky explained, it is a place to find motivation to finish those unfinished projects, but making a list of projects that you intend to complete in the next three months, and then at the end of each quarter you post a link from your blog with the completed projects.
I was thinking of making a similar list, not every three months, but more likely a year long one (go for all or nothing). They may mean nothing to you yet, but for me it is a great reminder of the projects that need to be completed this year!!

  1. "Our Neighborhood" quilt: In 2015 the first Hellenic Quilter's guild was founded, and one of the projects that we did to bring everyone together (at least the ones that took part) was to create 3 house blocks 30x30cm each month and send them to 3 different friends from the group that we called"neighbors". In doing so, we would receive one block from three different neighbors in that month. The exchange had its ups and downs, but was definately worth it, and it is almost finished now. So, I plan on posting the finished blocks that I received from my neighbors, and the blocks that I sent to them throught the year.
  2. A few mini projects that were organised by our quilter's guild that are so pretty and need to be mentioned.
  3. "Kinship Quilters B.O.M. & Swappers Group" was one group that I joined in Facebook in the beginning of 2015 that was hosted by Deanna Nagle from South Carolina. It was open to US and international friends, and being ambitious last year, I joined for one block and ended up with two!!! So two quilts will come out of this!! Yay!!!
  4. Knit-along blanket that was hosted by Julie from her yarn shop here in Chania, and a crochet-along blanket that was hosted in Julie's shop in November 2015 by Kika.
  5. Projects that I made by watching my Craftsy classes and anything else that I would like to share.
Not a small list, if I consider the amount of work that I need to do in order to complete them.
Now that it is written down, I can enjoy my Sunday. Hope you enjoy yours too.

Let's begin this journey, shall we?

Hello my friends,

Happy New Year!!! Wish all the best for you and your family! May all your wishes come true in 2016!!!

Well, now that 2015 is over, I believe it is time for me to start this blog, which was supposed to begin this time last year.... Anyone would wonder what happened in a year that prevented me from start writing this blog. It was nothing important, like health issues. More like an overwhelming feeling of trying to keep up with work, everyday chores, and a few quilt-alongs, knit-alongs, crochet-alongs, gym, taking care of our pets, adopting new stray ones….oh well, time never felt right and was never enough. So now that the group-alongs are finished, and pets can be more independent, I can finally begin.

Welcome again to my blog. Thank you for joining me in this journey.

I will be talking about the quilt/knit/crochet-alongs that I took part in last year and some new friends that I made in those groups, some UFO quilt tops from 2014 (I know!!!), a couple of baby quilts that I have promised to make as gifts to a couple of friends that gave birth(I was terrible in timing last year!!), and any new project, internet crafty class that I really really like and would love to share.
I will also be mentioning the eshops that I buy my supplies from, and all the crafters/bloggers that inspire me and I follow. The reason I’m doing this, is due to the fact that modern quilting, knitting and crochet is quite new in Greece, so I would like to share whatever I learn with whomever is interested. I am blissfully unaware if this blog will be kept written in English or if I will add Greek and make it bilingual. I guess time will tell.

So thank you again for joining me, stay tuned for some amazing projects.

Be safe, healthy and happy in 2016!!!
Geia sas,

Eleni
